Red Brick Double IPA

Pleasant surprises seem countless in the American craft beer industry. Each beer is a new adventure into the artistry of the brewer(s). Unlike drawn art, beer has more dimensions: smell, taste, and drinkability. I think this creates a much more difficult medium to please as the sense of site isn’t the only sense being used. Many times, I go into a beer with preconceived notions of what might be or not be as I didn’t with beer 211.

Double IPA by Red Brick Brewing Company was recommended to me while at the beer store in Florida picking out goodies to bring home. I am sure glad it was. Citrus hops are the highlight and focus of this beer. There is enough malt sweetness to balance the high dose of grapefruit so that it doesn’t ruin the palate but only borrow it for a short period of time. The 9.0% ABV plays a small roll but not enough to distract.

Unfiltered and pleasant for your pleasure (new slogan?). Enjoy!

Aroma: 9 (25%), Taste: 9 (25%), Look: 10 (15%), Drinkability: 8 (35%), Overall: 8.8

Useless Fact: Magical symbols drawn by Roman soldiers on shields to repel the evil eye became the basis for European heraldic designs during the Middle Ages.
