Dark Horse Sapient Trip Ale

Dark Horse Brewing Company makes some pretty darn good American craft beer. Most craft beer geeks have found themselves in possession at one time or another and, if they haven’t, would like to. I would have to say that their IPAs, Crooked Tree and Double Crooked Tree, are quite tasty.

It goes without saying that beer 183, being Sapient Trip Ale was something I had been waiting. A year realistically since that’s how long it has been sitting in the cellar.

Sweet, clove, banana, and fruitiness. Earth and musty notes come through to add a nice layer of complexity but I don’t know if I like it a Belgian tripel maybe the sweetness was on the high side too. An average beer in which there are many others in the style that are better. I like Dark Horse, so I hope that they improve this one. Enjoy!

Useless Fact: To “decimate” does not mean to obliterate or wipe out. It means to destroy one-tenth of something. Originally, the word referred to a Roman military tradition in which an entire troop would be punished for disobedience by decimation, that is, by the killing of every tenth man. There are accounts of this form of punishment being used in the English and French armies up to the time of World War I.
