Is is possible to become a Californaholic? You know, someone who cannot get enough of the fine American craft beer liquid goodness coming out of California. Especially those wonderful American IPAs. Whether is it possible or not, I am hooked.
For beer number 160 I had to “force” down Just Outstanding IPA by Kern River Brewing Company. I don’t believe this beer was as fresh as Alpine Brewing Company Nelson and Duet that I had over the weekend. It seems that the hop profile, at least on the nose, was much more subdued than I remember from the first go around I had with Just Outstanding IPA. It was on the very edge of between fresh and becoming slightly resinous.
In spite of the possible age, Just Outstanding IPA, is a high quality IPA. There is enough balance between citrus and floral hops and malt sweetness that doesn’t allow either to steal the show. The bitterness in the finish is perfectly set: non-lasting but has enough kick.
I need to find a friend that travels to and from California every few days so that I can fuel the addiction. Enjoy!
