My saving grace: Deschutes Brewery Obsidian Stout

It has been a couple of days since I have experienced a high quality American craft beer on my quest for 365 days of 365 American craft beers. I realize that not all beers are going to be to my liking but two days? Two days can feel like an eternity. All day yesterday, I was thinking in my head what I could pull out of the cellar to save grace, to get myself back on the right path.

Cold is an understatement for the weather we have been having in Chicagoland, so I knew it had to be a stout: something with some muscle. Obsidian Stout by Deschutes Brewery was recently sent to me in a trade as an extra and I have hear good things about this American stout.

Sounds like the perfect beer to lift up ones spirits.

The beer pours black into my pint glass with a beautiful brown, thick foam that captured my imagination of what could only be awaiting my nose and mouth. I wasn’t disappointed: roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee all combine to form a big bodied beer that fills the stomach zealously, hastily, and happily. I could go back to this beer often. I only wish I could.

I have now had a handful or more of Deschutes beers, all were decent at least, but this beer is the best so far. Especially since it is a year round offering. Job well done. Enjoy!
