Stoudts Gold Lager (365 Day 7)

By scot in 365 Days of American Craft Beer on Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

I have to say that the main beer of the evening was the second as I started with Saugatuck’s Singapore IPA. A beer that I forgot I had already had, but for the second time it has surprised me with how top shelf this lil’ ole IPA is from western Michigan. If you are passing through Michigan, especially the west side, try to pick this beer up and you will think that you are much further west than east of Lake Michigan.

Stoudts is one of those breweries that I can’t get locally but whenever I have the chance, I will pick up a few flavors. I have now had 11 different beers by Stoudts and can say, to this point, it has been hit or miss.

Gold Lager is a beer I have been putting off tasting as I didn’t think it would tickle my fancy. Was I wrong. This is a really solid lager. Aroma, taste, mouth, and drinkability are all stars. The bread/grain malt adds a very nice “big” feel to an otherwise light beer that surprisingly enough, I could see myself drinking year round and just during the warmer months. My first pleasant surprise and in the first week. Enjoy!
