AleWerks Washington's Porter

American porter is probably one of my favorite categories of American craft beer. Something about this style has grasped me and I have an intimate indulgence with it since my early days in American craft beer. I have the propensity to rate this style higher for no other reason that “because.”

So why the affinity for the style? Glad you asked. I think this style has a great amount of variance (seems like most styles do these days). I can have an American porter that is high hopped, has a lot of roast, has a lot of chocolate, has a lot of coffee, has a lot of dark fruits, and the list can go on. The bridge to stouts seems to have the ability to morph and take any combination of the aforementioned attributes at any time, unlike stouts where they should be present; outside of the high hops.

Washington’s Porter by Williamsburg AleWerks has been cellared for about a year. So the review is not of a fresh beer. I found the beer to have all the qualities that I search for in a quality porter. Definitely a beer to put on your list. Enjoy!

Useless Fact: Murder is the only crime that does not increase during the full moon. Theft, disorderly conduct, larceny, armed robbery, assault and battery, illegal breaking and entering, and rape all statistically increase dramatically during the full moon.
