Kona Pipeline Porter

Woohoo! My first beer from Hawaii: Pipeline Porter by Kona Brewing Company. King Bob, who is currently a few days ahead in this crazy 365 American craft beers in 365 days fiasco, was kind enough to dispatch me a bottle of leied goodness.

I started by looking at Kona’s website to learn a bit about the brewery, who they are, and what beers they brew. Their site is well done backed up by some Hawaiian music on the front page and a tone of colorful and pretty pictures that make me jealous. Damn Chicagoland finally had a day above freezing in February after a week of highs barely in double digits. Those bright colors just make me think of spring. 45 more days and I will start getting happy.

Pipeline is brewed with Kona coffee which is subtly intertwined in the porter. I would say this is a top notch porter but the aroma let me done. The complexity of the beer comes through in the nose but is soft, almost difficult to come up with the profile that is so boisterous in the taste. The coffee, chocolate, and burnt flavors lingering long enough on the tongue to entice you back for another delightful sip. Enjoy!

In case you are in Hawaii, a quick check on the internet tells me that “pia” is Hawaiian for beer. Now the site is educational too 😉
