Two regular dudes who happen to be huge fans of American craft beer.

American craft beer seems to keep growing while macros continue to decline. I guess I can tell by the cost of some of the American craft beers that they still have not reach the zenith of cost. I recently purchased Rare Bourbon County Stout, multiple bottles, and really didn’t feel that guilty about it after I noticed how bonsai some people went as well as tasting it. Is it worth $45? What is anything worth? The price people are willing to pay. So based on that logic, it was worth it by a whole lot of people.
Sorry for the tangent but now to yesterday’s beer: Under the Kilt by Dragonmead Microbrewery. Over Thanksgiving I visited Dragonmead while spending time with family in the Detroit area. I didn’t know what to expect but what I found was a huge tap list attached to some mighty fine beers. I had to bring some home with me. Under the Kilt was one of those fortunate to make it into my grubby hands.
The heavy ale is full of malt: caramel, sweet, roasted, toffee. The complete gambit of aromas and flavors that should be found in the style. Molasses even makes an appearances making the beer ever so sweet. This might be the only vice of the beer. The syrupy nature takes away from the fancy of the drink. I would have it again and would say that is above average, slightly. Enjoy!
Aroma: 8, Taste: 9, Look: 8, Drinkability: 7, Overall: 7.9
Useless Fact: Tomb robbers believed that knocking Egyptian sarcophagus’s noses off would and therefore forestall curses.
